SwitchBot's New Universal Remote Features Seamless Matter Support, Enabling Smooth Smart Home Experiences

By Alex Passett June 24, 2024

Recently on the lovely Smart Home Feature News section of our IoT Evolution site, I penned an article about SwitchBot, a provider of smart home retrofitting and automation products. SwitchBot’s teams specialize in solutions that are as viable function-wise as they are cost-wise; they upgrade folks’ homes with smarter capabilities, instead of requiring already-busy homeowners to full-on replace entire appliances, systems and so on. (If interested, read that story here.)

Today, we’ve got additional SwitchBot-related news that just dropped this past Friday:

SwitchBot has unveiled its brand-new SwitchBot Universal Remote. (Featured above, naturally.)

The SwitchBot Universal Remote – crucially, with Matter support; WIRED describes it quite thoroughly, I must say – makes it much simpler for smart home enjoyers to control various household appliances; TVs, AC units, lights, fans, DVD players (for those who still utilize those), home projectors and much more. Its infrared (IR) code library will reportedly be updated “every six months” for optimizations as tech evolves, and it also a.) “supports 83,934 remote control models” per SwitchBot (that’s a lot of models), and b.) integrates easily with SwitchBot’s other devices like the SwitchBot Plug Mini, Curtain, Ceiling Light and more.

Used with SwitchBot Hub 2 or Hub Mini Matter Enabled, the SwitchBot Universal Remote’s key features include the following:

  • Extensive Device Control: Aside from SwitchBot devices, SwitchBot Universal Remote can also control an extensive range of infrared products, as well as Apple TV, and Fire TV.
  • Customizable Scenes: Create scenes with one-click simplicity to control multiple devices all at once with either SwitchBot Hub 2, Hub Mini, or Hub Mini Matter Enabled. For example, activate Movie Mode to close curtains, adjust light brightness, and turn on your TV and sound system with the tap of a button.
  • Matter Supported: Used with SwitchBot Hub 2 or Hub Mini Matter Enabled, and SwitchBot Universal Remote can provide you with a “one-of-a-kind Matter experience,” offering even smoother smart home integration.
  • User-Friendly Design: Featuring a 2.4-inch LCD screen, Touch Wheel dial, big buttons and an overall compact size, this remote allows for efficient control with little effort.
  • Long-Lasting Durability: With a 2000mAh battery, SwitchBot Universal Remote can last for up to 150 days on a single charge, ensuring a reliable performance that can withstand over 100,000 presses.
  • Offline Control: Control infrared appliances and SwitchBot Bluetooth devices even without an internet connection, ensuring that your smart home remains functional regardless of network status.

At the time of this article’s publication, SwitchBot has this device priced at $59.99/£59.99/€69.99. Read here for more smart home tech from SwitchBot.
